, QUESTION 1
1.1 a) How will you as an educator cope with issues relating to access
of resources (Digital Divide) in your classroom? Use your own words to
explain the six practical strategies for teaching across the digital divide
in a limited resource school. (12)
https://blog.neolms.com/6-practical-strategies-teaching-across-digital-divide/
This question is personal based meaning what will you do to teach across the
digital divide in your classroom below I have given a few examples of what I
would do
a) Use posters and pictures that are printed at home
b) Buy my own mini portable projector that can be used from any phone,
USB or laptop
c) Provide students with information that they might need for a project
d) Demonstrate experiments that I have seen online at home
e) Begin a program with the school where we can buy 3 laptop’s or tablet’s
that will rotate to each class in the school
1. Meuser what access students have to technology in and out of school
Conduct a survey to determine how many students have internet access and
arrange homework and projects based on this survey, as well as the access
students, have at the school and surrounding libraries.
2. Do a survey on students and partners to check if they are computer
literate
Before assigning homework or projects that need internet or computer skills to
kids, conduct a survey to see how many parents and students are computer
literate, as this will exclude a large percentage of students even if they have
access to digital devices.
3. Provide students with the necessary resource if they do not have access
to technology
Students who do not have access to or the ability to use digital devices should
also be accommodated, which is why in my classroom I will keep a list of all
the students who will require resources, printing ahead and offer a resource
pack so that they can finish the assignment or project.
4. Get creative and use different methods to bring in resources
If my school does not have the funds to put digital devices into my classroom,
I can design picture posters and even use free services like Spotify to play
songs or rhymes to my students. There is also the option of purchasing my
own little portable projector into which I can insert a USB stick containing my
PowerPoint presentations and so on.
