, How to teach Vocabulary
Introduction
Learning the vocabulary of a second language learner presents the learner with
the following changes.
1. Making the correct connections, when understanding the second language,
between the form and the meaning of words.
2. When producing language using the correct form of a word for the meaning
intended (i.e. nose not noise)
To meet this challenges the learner need to:
- Acquire a critical mass of words for use in both understanding and
producing language.
- Remember words over time , and be able to recall them readily
- Develop strategies for coping with gaps in word knowledge, including
coping with unknown words, or unfamiliar uses of known words
The vocabulary of a language
In order to address the issues second learners come across, it is important to
know what a word exactly is.
