1. Floor-Boards
Taka is heading under the floor-boards for a mission. It’s his first mission. He’s
waiting for Lord Oda. Lord Oda stole the scrolls.
2. Dragons’s Gate
Taka is very good at throwing shuriken. Renzo is glaring at Taka and says that he
isn't a real ninja. Cho says that everyone has a weak point. She shows taka the
Dragons’s Gate. She drives her thumb into the space behind Taka’s collarbone. A
blinding pain shoots through Taka’s body.
3. Black Belt Test
When a student turns fourteen the Grandmaster invites them to his temple to take a
red flower from his hand. The grandmaster is old and blind, but the task is far from
easy. There are traps set all through the temple. Taka failed twice already. This is his
third attempt.
4. Grandmaster
The temple is a tall wooden pagoda with a spire that pokes out of the top like a
spear. Taka wants to stand on the gravel, but then he pulls back. This was how he
failed his first attempt. The gravel is there to test a ninja’s stealth-walking. Taka
points his left foot and place his toes down first. This way he doesn’t make sound.
Last time the grandmaster smelt the rich fertile feed on Taka’s feet. Taka washes the
dirtt of his feet. Beside him is a juniper bush. The temple smells like juniper. Taka
takes some leaves and rub them of his body. Taka enters the temple. The
Grandmaster sits on the platform. Taka crosses the temple and dodges all traps but
then the Grandmaster grabs him by his hand.
5. A Lesson From An Ant
Taka fears he will never become a ninja. He asks the Grandmaster what he did
wrong. The Grandmaster says that he made three mistakes.
His first mistake:
1. coming in through the door. A ninja must never do what is enemy expects.
The Grandmaster teaches Taka an important lesson in how to look and listen.
