LTROTSKY’S DOWNFALL

Relationship with Lenin

He was the main organiser of the November revolution, he built up the red army that defeated the whites and was the

commissioner for war. They also had a long standing relationship and Trosky had proved his worth.

The Joint Bloc for Democracy

Lenin feared that there was a threat against the revolution as the Central Committee proposal in December 1922

stated that they wished to weaken the state monopoly of foeign trade which was essential to prevent capitalism.

Trosky warned Lenin about the growing threat of bureaucracy and Lenin decided to form a joint block for Democracy

which was soon delayed due to his second stroke.

From his testament to his death he was urging Trotsky to launch a campaign against bureaucracy and for the

restoration of party and soviet democracy

Lenin’s Testament

Lenin was concerned about Stalin's growing power, when they first met Lenin was not impressed with him but he

soon began to see Stalin as the threat that he was and thus he commanded his removal from power. He didn't think

that Stalin treated the minorities well - he treated them badly.
