, Introduction
Africa did not just find itself as an independent continent, bit it all started after
colonialism and after World War II. They are ideas that influences independent
states (such as types of economic systems were introduced, features of colonial
economic systems), but in this essay I will be focusing on analyzing the extent to
which I would refer to Africa as independent. This means that I will be determining
the nature and relationship of range of Africa as independent.
Body
When Africa becomes an independent continent, who actually did benefits, is it the
leaders, the people or the west? As Africa started being independent in 1950s and
1960s all Africans were able to govern themselves in their own ways because they
were enjoying their freedom by rejoicing and festivity, as the flags of the colonial
rulers came down and the future became more promising. But 20 years later that
promising future remains unclear because some of African countries continue to
struggle with the economic independence due to the fact that even though colonial
rulers were no more in charge or control of our continent but they did not give up
their economic interest. They still wanted African raw materials in low prices.
Somewhere somehow the relationship between Africa and West continues even
during independent phase in Africa (Post, Independence in Africa, 1980).
As Africa becomes an independent continent many countries face development
problems such that some of them were poor because of colonial exploitation and
others had been developed to benefits the colonial powers. So the leaders of those
countries were left with no choice but to accept support and investments from big
countries of America and Europe. Those investments were from the powerful
transnationals. So some of those transnationals end up being invited to African
countries of those leaders. At the end the governments of America and Europe were
interested in profits. But in other African countries their leaders decided to solve such
development problems in their own ways without someone else’s support (America
and Europe), but still their countries remain poor. That is why in Africa some
countries are more successfully than other countries but all of them are in the same
continent. (Post, Independence in Africa, 1980).
