1. As non-native English speakers, students may have difficulties 1. Although, this may be highly impossible to work for adult
speaking English throughout and start speaking their native students but it’s my duty as a teacher to come up with solutions
language most of the time. Some might even chat in groups, and think of anything possible to solve a problem but to solve
completely unaware as to what is going on in class. this L1 problem, I’d have to turn the issue into a “reward game”
by rewarding every student that didn’t speak their native
language, for example, a movie ticket for adult students and a
star for younger ones just as an encourage for other students to
practice speaking English all the time during a lesson.
2. Students can get really shy and embarrassed when they don’t 2. Before anything else, to encourage students to speak freely in
know what to say or if they make mistakes especially when class, it is important to allow them to get to know each other and
they learn with students, they are not familiar with. encourage them to always have conversations with other
students just to make them feel comfortable speaking around
each other. Always remind them that they are here to learn, not
to compete.
