TASK 1: Leaflet
Produce a leaflet to describe (P1) the different types of formal written
communication used in the uniformed public services.
Annual Reports
Annual reports are produced so organisations can see their performance and targets they want
to achieve to increase that performance. Police officers will use CCTV cameras to collect
evidence and it will stop police officers from being abusive and people from being violent. In
the Police service, high ranked officers and commissioners look at the annual reports and look
for areas where they need to improve, if crime rate is high so in one area, they will increase the
amount of Police Officers there and try to fix that.
Internet
The internet connects all around the world and people have instant access allowing to create
networks of databases and quick information sharing. Immigration and customs officers
communicate with other EU and Non-EU countries all around the world to track criminals,
runners and other possible threats. This leads to a quick response and effective problem
solving. For example, Merseyside Police in Liverpool have their own intranet when staff share
information between each other, or they post it on Facebook or Twitter. This could be
information about people who went missing or are wanted for murder.
Intranet
Intranet is a network within specific organisations. It is similar to internet but is restricted and
connected to only needed computer networks. Its advantages are that it becomes really hard to
hack and implant viruses into network like this and information stays a lot more secure. Police
use intranet to store incidents and crime reports as well as annual reports and many other data,
they only allow specific situations and bases to have access to this data to keep it secure from
the public.
Performance Report
This is a report of something that happened now or before. Reports will contain performance
indicators which measure the achievements of the organisation and its programmes. For
example, for a police department, the report might show the number of arrests, number of
convictions by crime category and the change in the crime rate.
