Unit 8 Promoting health and wellbeing Task 2 First submission
C.P5 Explain how approaches to health promotion and protection have
been applied in a selected health promotion campaign.
D.P8 Explain the features of a selected health promotion campaign and
the approaches used to increase public awareness.
Health promotion is the process of allowing people to have more control and
improve their own health and well-being. It focuses beyond an individuals
behaviour as it centres on a wide range of social and environmental
interventions (Rural Health Information Hub). Health promotion might use
provisions and information to ensure positive life choices are made by
individuals and the nation. By enabling people to have control factors that
might have an impact on their health, this ensures people take actions
towards improving their health and well-being. Change for life is an example of
a health promotion campaign to tackle obesity. It provides information on how
people can lead a healthier lifestyle. Health promotion enables those who are
at risk of health risk from lifestyle factors are able to have more control over
their health. Health promotion highlights the consequence of not controlling
one's health, this means when people have control of their health they will be
more aware of what could have happened if they haven’t taken any action
towards their health. The benefit of health promotion is that it allows people to
be free to take actions to improve their health on their own without compelling
them to. This enables people’s health to be improved as they are willing to
take the actions or steps to improve their health.
Health protection focuses more on minimizing the spread of communicable
disease/ infection, by the use of regulations to ensure standards are being met
to protect the public's health. A few health standards government agencies
such as Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Drugs Administration
(FDA) and Department of Health and Human Services also contribute in
minimizing infection spread. For instance the FDA works towards ensuring
foods are not tainted and can’t cause disease that can affect people's health
causing illness (Galvan).

Health promoters such as WHO, national, regional, local governments and
local authorities, work toward a particular aim and this is to improve the health
of individuals and population. They might work with partners to ensure the
outcome they are aiming for is met. They also work to reduce health
inequalities.
WHO is an international public health organization that has a number of
crucial roles in ensuring international healthcare can be accessed. It was set
up on the 7th of april 1948. They also ensure infectious diseases are
prevented by making crucial decisions to stop the spread of infections and
analyse determinants of health (“What Is the World Health Organization? -
Definition, History & Purpose - Video & Lesson Transcript | Study.Com”). They
find the factors that might affect health and try to control it to promote a
healthier way of living globally. They assist in developing policies for the
healthcare system with their current healthcare partners. WHO uses statistics
to try and find out the current health trends such as an outbreak of an infection
such as coronavirus. They work with partners and globally in management
and help in treatment findings for infections to minimize its spread.
The Department of Health is a government agency that is established in every
country. They are responsible for the health of the public by supporting and
encouraging a healthier lifestyle to keep people healthy and ensure they live
longer. They also help in shaping care by supporting our ministers to ensure
the population is provided with treatment and that a plan is produced in case
of emergencies. They help in developing new legislation that will tackle future
issues. They report improvement so issues that haven't shown improvement
would be of priority to focus on and this helps draw up long term goals on
what challenges to focus on. DH also works with NHS and local authorities to
obtain data to create a public health system. Overall department of health
ensures care is a priority focus for the government (GOV.UK, “About Us”).
They aim to make the public healthier by supporting and encouraging the
public. They also provide advice on how the health system can be improved.
For instance the black report was published by the department of health to
help reduce inequalities. They support the public by trying to improve the
health of individuals and the populations.

The Department of Health works with agencies such as Public Health England
to reduce inequalities by encouraging a healthier lifestyle to ensure the public
is healthy. They also help the local government by making recommendations
on how health can be improved and they also help the local government to act
upon decisions concerning health by providing provisions and support
(GOV.UK). they are responsible for addressing health inequalities and helping
to reduce them by actively working together with other organisations such as
the NHS. They might work with the NHS to provide health and social care
services like screening programmes. PHE uses the data from the provided
services to address inequalities and develop a solution for public health
issues.

Plymouth Public Health has a vision to minimize inequalities of health that has
impacted people's health. Their goal is to reduce the social, economic and
environmental determinants of health to ensure people have a good quality of
life. To achieve this, inequalities need to be addressed for improvement and
health and wellbeing of individuals and of the population needs to be bettered,
in order for people to have a good quality of life. Plymouth is situated in the
southwest and has approximately 260,000 people, although plymouth offers a
good environment for a healthy lifestyle, it has areas of deprivation and wealth
within small-scaled areas. However the leadership approach has the potential
to influence the working of the city. There are four major diseases that cause
54% of deaths in Plymouth, this is why it is important to address the inequality
of health in plymouth. Public Health teams such as Public Health, Public
Protection and Civil Protection were put together by ODPH to ensure
environmental issues are addressed and emergency planning is in place.
Plymouth Public Health are able to work together with other organisations
dealing with housing, planning, education, leisure, policy and social care
issues. They also work together with local authorities to address inequalities
and determinants of health(SEVERN POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL

Health professionals are an essential part of ensuring the health of an
individual and the population is improved. They ensure individuals and the
population’s access to healthcare is improved so they are able to get the
medical help they need. This means they play a part in reducing health
inequality, as they ensure individuals and the populations are able to access
healthcare. They ensure service users are receiving quality care by
questioning the standards of their care and using this feedback to try to
improve care in the future. Health professionals provide primary health care,
this means they offer important services such as promoting health, preventing
infections or disease and providing healthcare services to individuals and the
population. The goals of Millennium Development is to enhance health
professionals skills and ability by the use of mechanisms. The World Health
reports 2006: Working Together for Health highlights a big problem as there
has been a global shortage of 4.3 million doctors, support workers, nurses and
midwives. As well as 36 of 57 countries having severe shortages in Africa.
This has prompted the World Health Assembly to carry out new strategies to
increase health professionals contributions. To do this, policies and guidance
