Wittevleklaesie alleen zichtbaar als het droog is? → glazuur
Door droogblazen wordt het vocht uit de microporositeiten, aanwezig in het ontkalkte
glazuur, verdreven en verandert de lichtbreking en lichtverstrooiing van het glazuur.
Bitewing-opnamen zijn onmisbaar als cariësdiagnostisch hulpmiddel (vooral
approximaal). De activiteit kan worden vastgesteld door het nemen van
opeenvolgende bitewing-opnamen.
Als een carieuze laesie is gedetecteerd dient te worden vastgesteld wat de dynamiek
van het cariësproces is. Met klinische parameters zoals: verschijningsvorm, locatie,
oppervlakteruwheid en conditie van de gingiva.
Actieve laesie: zacht, dof wit, kalkachtig oppervlak, vaak bedekt met plaque en voelt
ruw aan wanneer het oppervlak wordt afgetast met een stompe sonde.
Inactieve laesie: hard, glad en glanzend oppervlak.
