1. Background
Because of the rapid advancement of technology, the Internet in general, and smart
mobile devices and tablets in particular, have become increasingly important in human
life. Applications and social networks, in particular, play a critical role in enriching daily

exploded in popularity. These apps make people's lives more colorful and convenient by
allowing them to interact and share their lives.
In the last decade, big names like Facebook, Youtube, Tumblr, Twitter, etc. are among
the most popular media applications. However, TikTok, a Chinese video and social
networking platform, which was first launched in 2017, stunned the world with its
success.
TikTok has skyrocketed to become a global star application in just a few short years.
With nearly 1 billion active users worldwide, TikTok is now considered one of the
world's largest social networking platforms, on par with well-known social networks.
2. Rationale
After only a few years of operation, TikTok has amassed billions of users and is valued in
the tens of billions of dollars. As a student at an economics university, TikTok strongly
attracted my attention. The goal of this research is to find out more about TikTok and
how successful it has been. From there, I can gain a better understanding of knowledge
and draw useful lessons for myself.
