Se puede enfocar a la infraestructura verde como un sistema
en el que interactúa el ser humano y el medio natural, al
proporcionar los servicios ecosístemicos indispensables para
el funcionamiento de las distintas dinámicas urbanos,
incluyendo la movilidad.
La comisión Europea la define como:
“Red estratégicamente planificada de áreas naturales y semi-
naturales con otras características ambientales diseñadas y
administradas para ofrecer una amplia gama de servicios eco-
sistémicos. Incorpora espacios verdes (o azules, si se trata de
ecosistemas acuáticos) y otras características físicas en áreas
terrestres y marinas. En espacios terrestres, se presenta en el
ámbito rural y urbano y permite proveer múltiples beneficios
en forma de apoyo a la economía verde, mejora de la calidad de
vida, protección de la biodiversidad y mejora la capacidad de
los ecosistemas para prestar servicios como la reducción del
riesgo de desastres, la purificación del agua, la calidad del aire,
espacios recreativos, mitigación y adaptación al cambio
climático”.
