Interview transcript
R – “Okay so can you tell me your name, which university you’re at, and what
year you are in”
P – “okay. My name is Sidra Ali, I’m at the University of Manchester and I’m in
my first year”
R – “Have you consented to be a part of this research?”
P – “Yes, I’ve signed my consent form and I have read the information sheet.”
R – “… and are you okay with me recording this interview?”
P – “yes I’m perfectly fine with you recording this interview.”
R – “okay so let’s talk about your experiences with transitioning to higher
education. Can you tell me about your past experiences with education before
you started university”?
P – “okay so erm, do you want me to state the names as well? So, for primary
school I went to St. Michael’s primary school but erm I can’t really remember
much about it. I don’t remember primary school being too difficult or
challenging. For secondary school I went to Mount Saint Joseph’s and I felt like
as the years progressed the difficulty level increased, but it wasn’t as hard as
education later. In high school, there was more focus on friendship groups and
building relationships with other people compared to the actual education side
of things. Anyways, college was Bolton sixth form college… erm that was okay.
It wasn’t that hard compared to university, and erm now I’m at the university
of Manchester and I – I find it difficult but… erm yeah…”
R – “So do you find that it’s gotten more and more difficult as you’ve gone
along?”
P – “yeah definitely. I feel like college was erm – in terms of university, college
and A levels was similar to the first year of university and I feel like its getting
harder now as the year is progressing.”
R – “and are you finding the actual transition from college to university
difficult? If so why?”
“… erm it’s not that difficult … erm it’s similar but its just like… some things are
a bit difficult. Most of the things that we’ve touched on are quite similar to
college and A levels.”
