NR 451 Week 8 Discussion, Your Future What Does the Future Hold? What does the following statement mean to you? In order to meet the challenges of taking care of older & sicker patients, incorporate patient safety & quality of care into practice, & understand economics & its effect on the workforce, nurses must take a leading role in the future of healthcare. As the largest health care workforce, nurses apply their knowledge, skills, & experience to care for the various & changing needs of patients. A large part of the demands of patient care is centered on the work of nurses. When care falls short of standards, whether because of resource allocation (e.g., workforce shortages & lack of needed medical equipment) or lack of appropriate policies & standards, nurses shoulder much of the responsibility Nurses should take the leading role to partner with patients (and the patient’s family & friends, when appropriate) to realize informed, shared decision making, improve patient knowledge, & inform self-management skills & preventive behaviors. Nurses should encourage the need of working in teams. it will make fewer errors when they work well together, use well-planned & standardized processes, know team members’ & their own responsibilities, & constantly monitor team members’ performance to prevent errors before they could cause harm & also encourage Evidence-based practices should be used in clinical decision making whenever possible & creating a culture of safety. A safety climate is a type of organizational culture & is the result of effective interplay of structure & processes factors & the attitude, perception, & behavior of staff related to safety. Thank you for your discussion board post on your PICO question this week in our discussion board thread. You met the requirements for the PICO & it is nurse driven.
