After weeks of searching and talking about different ideas with my class peers and mentor I have
decided that I will be focusing on the topic of football and the question that I am going to be
focusing on is ‘is playing football a good life career?’.
There are many reasons why I decide to choose this as my EPQ Project however the main reason
why I decide to choose this for my project is that football has been a big part of my life since I was
little and still is now and I’d like to say that I have a lot of knowledge and personal experience on the
sport myself.
To help me write about my main question I am going to be splitting it up into a few questions to help
me increase the knowledge being given out. I will be using the following;
Is football a rigged sport?
Does football create good role models?
Is football good or bad for the body and health?
Can football ruin careers?
Does football commit enough to charities?
These are some of the most talkative points focused around the sport itself and these will help me
write as much as possible for my EPQ project.

Methodology 1: PRIMARY RESOURCE
TOM EDWARDS (Stoke City FC Footballer)
I am going to contact Tom Edwards through the social media app called Instagram. This will allow me
to message him as he’s a close friend and get a reply back that is specific for my question. This will
allow me to have a conversation with him and obtain research about my EPQ topic.
I chose to use Tom as my primary research as he has a hands on view of the game being a
professional footballer himself and he has witnessed what it’s like to play football at an advanced
level for years as he’s been through the stoke city academy scheme since a young age.
There are many pros and cons of using this method as I will have a direct answer to my questions
which is very important as it will allow me to complete the research. However this could be bad as
he may not be able to answer certain questions depending on how private they ae or if it will affect
his career in anyway.
I have chosen Tom Edwards for my primary research because he’s the best possible option for me to
us due to how well I know him and how much of an easy access I have towards him. He lives close
and have easy contact over the phone. This is good because he’s reliable and will be able to give me
solid knowledge on my objective questions.
I am using online to help with my primary research as I am financially limited and to complete this in
person it would cost too much money and time. I am using online as it allows me to speak with Tom
with no extra cost and allows me to save time by not having to travel. Using online is also very good
as I can access this data at any time without having to wait.
Methodology 2: PRIMARY RESOURCE
LIAM HICKSON (Academy Player at Port Vale)
I am going to contact them via a phone call then organize to meet up and interview them face to
face. This will allow me to not only obtain valuable information but allow me to see how they react
when they are asked about the questions.
I chose to use Liam Hickson as one of my other resources for primary research as I also know him
very well and he is reliable. I have used him because he is an alternative to Tom as Liam is currently
coming to the end of his time playing for a football academy which he has been doing since a young
age/ this will give me a different perspective to Tom which I very important as I will get to see the
difference from a professional footballer to an academy footballer.
The pros of using Liam as a primary resource is that it will allow me to not only see what he’s been
through but is opinion on the sport itself by answering my questions I have prepared for the
interview. Another pro would be that I have known Liam for a very long which would mean I am able
to rely on him with his answers and he has experienced a lot about football as he’s been with the
academy since a young age meaning his has been through a lot and competed with a lot of different
challenges while in his football career.
