Negotiation is used in healthcare for a variety of different reasons. A large context is
when a physician or care team wants to create a personalized treatment plan for a
patient. For example, when trying to make a treatment plan for an obese patient,
there needs to be reasonable goals that are achievable.
2. Explain how the change in the patient's status through the years has affected
patient education.
In today’s world, it is very easy for patients to research on their own about a variety
of different diseases such as using the internet. Increased patient awareness is a
response we expect from patient education and proves that information presented as
gotten through and that the individual cares. With this access, patients are able to
negotiate care plans with their healthcare team.
3. List the pros and cons of negotiation.
Some of the pros to negotiation include that it creates a better working relationship
with the patient and staff. It also has the ability to be flexible with minimal risks.
Some cons to negotiation include that we can not trust what our patient tells us is
true and that they will actually follow through on the plan.

Patient confidentially is the most important part in a patient contract. This means
that all staff are to ensure that all information about the patient and their condition
is remained private. The patient contract is also a way to adhere to attendance for
appointments, and holds them to reschedule if they miss an appointment. Lastly, the
patient contract hold the patient to refrain from abuse against and towards staff.

The baby boomer population are those born between 1946 and 1964. This time period
is post world war 2. As this generation is approaching late adulthood, there will be an
increased need for their healthcare needs.

Elderly patients have a tendency to have a deeper spiritual connection to their faith
compared to a 30-year old. The elderly population are also more rooted in their
culture and beliefs compared to younger adults. Within the context of perception,
elderly may view younger professionals as being inexperience and may prefer older
professionals.
