Focus - The focus of my campaign is tech crime.
- Tech crime is a crime which goes unreported and unrecorded, and victims often
don't know that they are a victim of the crime.
- This campaign will help to bring awareness to victims and those who use
technology, and ensure that they can report the crime and are able to
differentiate the crime when using technology.
- This campaign was inspired by the Cambridge Analytica (The Great Hack).
Millions of people had their data stolen and sold in order to create user personas
to manipulate the presidential race in 2016 and the potential manipulation of
Brexit in 2016. Millions of people fall victim to data breaches and tech crimes
while using technology, and many are unaware that these types of crimes are
happening. Therefore, it is vital that the general public are more aware of tech
crimes as it is a serious threat to millions of people

Aims - Increase awareness of tech crime so that those who may fall victim to tech
crimes are more aware of the crime
- Educate and inform the general public about tech crimes and the dangers and
risks surrounding the crime

Objectives - Produce leaflets which highlight the dangers of tech crime. Aim to give out 1,000
leaflets in total. In order to achieve this, ask the headteacher of the school to give
out leaflets. This ensures it reaches the target audience of secondary school
pupils. Aim to distribute 200 leaflets per day.
- Produce social media adverts to highlight tech crime. Aim to promote the advert
to 50,000 people. Use social media analytics to target people who are aged
16-25. This ensures it reaches the target audience via social media platforms
which can educate people who may be victims of hate crime or are witnesses of
tech crime may use (e.g Instagram). Deliver adverts to 5,000 people per day.
- Produce merchandise to help raise money for tech crime victims so that they can
get the full support they need. Aim to sell 100 hoodies, 100 tote bags and 100
mugs. In order to achieve this, research different manufacturers, and create a
website to sell merchandise on. This ensures that people can buy the
merchandise online. Aim to sell over 50% of products to ensure break even and
profit is made

Justification - I have selected this particular under-reported/hidden crime because there is a
lack of awareness of tech crime and the level of public awareness can vary
between person to person, meaning that some people may be aware of the
crime, however others do not.
- Some statistics to support my justification for the campaign is that since the
covid-19 pandemic, tech crime has increased by almost a third as more people
are using technology more often. This proves that an increase in more
technological usage means that more people may become vulnerable to tech
crime due to lack of awareness and lack of knowledge of tech crimes.
- A tragic case linked to this crime is the Great Hack involving Cambridge
Analytica, who were able to use Facebook to manipulate the 2016 presidential
election by illegally gathering peoples data and manipulating people who were
deemed as ‘the persuadables’ to vote in the election. This huge scale of this tech
crime reinforces how tech crime is a major problem within our society, and
highlights the need to raise awareness of the dangers of tech crime.

Target - Following the evidence within my justification, I have chosen my target audience
audience to be young people aged 16 to 25, who are both male and female. This is due to
the fact that these people are new to using technology, and need to understand
the dangers of tech crime. People aged between 16 to 25 were most likely to use

, social media, download software, video call on the internet using a webcam, etc.
The rise in digital devices has also risen significantly following 2013, with the
average screen time for a 16 year old being seven and a half hours per day.
Therefore, it is important to target this audience of people as they are more likely
to be using social media and technology, and so may be more likely to fall victim
to tech crime.
- The first method is leaflets - these will be used to reach victims with more
condensed information. Even though not all people in my target audience may
pick up and read a leaflet, some people may still read the leaflet who may know
someone who is a victim of tech crime. Leaflets can have condensed information
on them, and so it will be easier for victims to find out about the campaign and
seek support through the leaflet if they were to pick one up. By having an
alternative to online methods, this increases the likelihood of a victim of picking
up a leaflet and reading it.
- The second method is merchandise. The merchandise will be unisex, and will be
able to be purchased by anyone. The clothing will be available in different sizes
to accommodate everyone in different sizes. It may be likely that people who
follow and support the campaign will buy the merchandise, leading to victims
being able to find out about the campaign through other people wearing and
using the merchandise. My target audience may also be likely to want to buy
merchandise as it is more suited for them to wear the merchandise (e.g hoodies)
if it has an interesting design or is for a good cause.
- The third method is social media. Millions of people in the UK use social media,
including my target audience. My target audience is able to use social media, and
this leads to them being able to find out more about my campaign, and then gain
the necessary support they need. The use of social media means that victims do
not need to talk to anyone in real life, and can use online methods to contact
people via email, direct messaging, phone calls, etc, and this can ensure that if
any victims are scared to talk to anyone in person, they can speak to someone
online.

Methods Leaflets
and - The first method we will use to promote the campaign is leaflets. The purpose of
Materials the leaflets is to spread more condensed information onto one source which will
inform someone on tech crime - how to spot it, how to support someone who may
have fallen victim to a tech crime, how to report it, and to spread awareness of
tech crime. Some advantages of leaflets are the fact that they can contain
contact number, websites, imagery, condensed information, statistics, and more.
This is beneficial as it leads to people being able to use the leaflet to its potential
due to its condensed nature, and someone can find all the information they need
on the leaflet. Another advantage is that they are relatively cheap to produce in
bulk. This is beneficial as it can lead to more leaflets being printed at a lower cost
per unit. Another advantage of leaflets is that someone can pick them up as a
physical item, and do not need the internet to see them. This is beneficial as it
means that potential victims who may be unable to gain access to the internet
are able to use the leaflet to seek the right support.

Social Media
- The second method we will use to promote the campaign is social media
advertising and networking. The purpose of social media advertising and
networking is to aim to connect as many people as possible, with the goal of
promoting the campaign to a broader and larger target audience. Some
advantages of social media are the fact that they can reach a large target
audience, as anyone can access technology and social media. This is beneficial
as it means that victims of tech crime who use social media are able to find
information which may benefit them and help them seek support. Another
