- In zeer grote aantallen bij een volwassen dier jongste dier bestaat uit 1 cel = eicel
- Verschillende vormen, maar altijd hetzelfde complexe bouwplan:

- Dubbelwandig membraan met poriën (=proteïnen) selectief transport mogelijk
- Genetisch materiaal (DNA) wordt hier opgeslagen gebruikt om eiwitten aan te
maken
- Nucleolus:
o 1 of meer per kern
o Maakt ribosomen (= stukjes die helpen met het aflezen van het DNA) aan
Chromosomen
- 1 lange dunne chromatinedraad die is opgerold
- Bij celdeling: duplicatie en condensatie DNA erin gaat splitsen zodat elke nieuwe
cel een kopie meekrijgt dit is de typische X-vorm:
o Zusterchromatiden
o Centromeer
o Telomeer
- 2n chromosomen in elke lichaamscel: 1 van de vader en 1 van de moeder diploïd
aantal varieert per species (mens 23)
