Planning and thinking of your dream career may take a big imagination but being able to

step into those shoes as a director can be an essential fulfilling role to play and dedicated work

to oversee a facility filled with staff and children being cared for. Wondering how the time can

goes go fast when handling staff schedule, breaks, issues with challenging behavior and

constantly trying to complete a task in the office with enrollment, policies. In this paper I will

explain what it is like being a director of a childcare center. An observation of the Director from

what happen as soon as she enters the facility and how this director manage everything and

everyone in the building.


The reason why I chose this activity to observe because this role really interests me, I

notice that director has many responsibilities, and the director must stay active. Observing this

event will provide me with insight on those responsibilities, it will help me decide what type of

leader I want to be as a director or even a home-base childcare center. What skills a leader must

have to manage a center, what kind of changes can be made to better staff, families, especially

for the children’s learning environment and supporting the whole child’s well-being.


While observing the director the first thing she did was found out how many staff

clock-in to the facility and check in on each class to make sure teachers were completing the

morning classroom setup routine, that was filling the bleach bottle solution, wiping down

tables, counters, changing tables for infant/toddler classroom, taking down chairs etc. She then

has the front desk administrator print out the family’s sign-in sheets for the front
