Comparative Essay 2
In the Ted Talk, Glen made some excellent points on stay-at-home fathers. The first point Glen
made was he thought, “this is easy.” TEDx Talks. (2018, March 1). In fact, he was more so
wrong, in my husband’s experience this was not a walk in the park. My husband can identify
with what Glen was explaining about the never-ending cycle of cleaning with the kids.
Glen stated that, “staying at home sounds boring.” TEDx Talks. (2018, March 1), at this point he
was trying not to be judged by other males because he decided to be a stay-at-home dad.
According to Healthline, “Using U.S. Census data, the National At-Home Dad Network
estimates 7 million fathers are a regular source of care for children under the age of 15 in the
United States.” Crider, C. (2020, May 19). By allowing this to be a normal trend, Cicek
Göçkün’s statement holds truth, “by teaching children that men and women can do equally the
same things within a household.”
I believe this would cut out the workload for “women to be able to continue their life on a
regular basis because they have a spouse to share the parental role with.” TEDx Talks. (2015,
August 18). In my opinion having the family workload shared is truly beneficial for both mom
and dad. I would think that mom would feel a ton weight lifted off her shoulder and her mental
health would be improved, and dad would feel that he is “present in his kid’s life” TEDx Talks.
(2018, March 1) and that he would feel more involved, not feeling like he is not on the same
page with mom.
