The newspaper was founded back in 1877 and had five different publishers. When Katharine
Graham became the publisher of the Washington Post, it was unexpected. She has only
become the publisher due to her husband's unexpected death. Her late husband, Philip
Graham, had acquired the Washington Post by his father-in-law, Katharine Graham's father,
in 1946 (Washington Post, 2021). Even though she had no intentions to become a publisher,
as she considered herself an 'obedient daughter' and 'a doormat wife' (Tylor, 2012), Katharine
