1.1. Define GeoGebra.
GeoGebra can be defined as a software for the learning and teaching of
Mathematics. It provides a lot of assistance in linking mathematical concepts
by offering geometry, algebra, and calculus tools in one package.
1.2. Describe how you would use GeoGebra in the teaching of Grade 9
mathematics topics.
• The home page of GeoGebra contains a Cartesian plane with a
function toolbar.
• I would then click on the toolbar.
• Next, I would click “show” or “hide” grid to show the grid.
• I would plot points, for example, the point A (1;3) by clicking “A” on the
toolbar and then clicking the point of intersection of A (1;3). The point
(A) will then appear.
• The next step would be to reflect the point A (1;3) about the x – axis by
using the suitable function on the toolbar. The mirror image or the
reflection of A (1;3) will then be reflected as A՛ (1;-3).
• The GeoGebra can also be used to plot and reflect polygons.
1.3. Discuss the applicability of technology and media in the mathematics
classroom.
The applicability of technology and media in the teaching and learning of
mathematics should enable learners to acquire learning experience through:
• making knowledgeable decisions when retrieving, recording, and
examining data, as well as when manipulating, understanding, and
processing information
• applying problem – solving skills, using analytical and creative thinking,
within the context of business information, communication, and
technology
• attaining basic knowledge and skills to improve his or her ability in
interacting with different computer applications, such as word
processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations
• applying knowledge and skills, as well as comprehending
environmental and global issues that are related to the subject
• communicating successfully across a broad spectrum of environments
by using the appropriate software and communication – related tools.
