Preoperationele periode van Piaget
Kinderen van 4 tot 6 jaar bevinden zich met het denken in de preoperationele periode. Het denken is
nog niet helemaal logisch en systematisch. Een belangrijk kenmerken van dit denken is het
zogeheten egocentrisme. Jonge kinderen bekijken de wereld vanuit één standpunt: hun eigen
standpunt. Voor het denken betekent dit dat een jonge kleuter nog weinig oorzaak-gevolgverbanden
ziet. En als die er wel zijn, heeft dit verband met hem zelf te maken.
Een tweede kenmerk is het ‘magisch denken’ of ‘animisme’. Jonge kinderen hebben de neiging om
leven toe te kennen aan niet-levende dingen. Dit is de bron van fantasie.
Zone van de naaste ontwikkeling van Vygotsky
Piaget ging ervan uit dat het kind zichzelf vanuit een soort aangeboren aanleg ontwikkelt van fase
naar fase. Vygotsky vindt dat een kind dat niet alleen doet. Het kan zichzelf juist ontwikkelen omdat
de omgeving zich ermee bemoeit.
Vygotsky onderscheidt 2 ontwikkelingsniveaus:
1. de zone van de actuele ontwikkeling is het gebied waarin alles zit wat een kind al kan
2. de zone van de naaste ontwikkeling is het gebied waarin alles zit wat een kind nog net niet
kan, maar wat een kind wel graag zou willen kunnen
