AC1.2 Paragraphs new and updated

White collar crime goes unreported for multiple reasons. Some of the Personal related
reasons that white-collar crimes go unreported is not affected. Some people may be not
affected to a crime and therefore not report it, this is because they feel the police wont not
care about the crime if they don’t, these are normally small moral that are a victimless crime
and as a result of this the witness isn’t interested in the crime. However, in some cases it
can be larger more serious crime like white collar crime but if the witness doesn’t care that
someone is committing a criminal offence like fraud or a Ponzi scheme then they won’t
report this. For example, the case study of Bernie Madoff may have been seen by someone
but due to them being not affected as they have their own their own issues to worry about.
1 in 3 white collar crimes go unreported due to the witness not being affected. This links to
the brief as Mr S has been caught making fraudulent expense claims, this may have gone
unreported by a college or family/friend as they were not being affected by his criminal
activity. The other type of crime to analyse is moral crimes. A personal reason for why
moral crimes goes unreported is disinterest. Some people may be disinterested to a crime
and therefore not report it, this is because they feel the police wont not care about the
crime if they don’t, these are normally small moral crimes like underage kids drinking in the
park, this is a victimless crime and as a result of this the witness isn’t interested in the crime.
70% of people don’t report kids underage drinking alcohol. Another reason is lack of
interest. similar to disinterest however its more because it doesn’t affect them, so they
don’t feel the need to report it. This is mainly with moral crimes or low level individual
crimes like if a witness saw someone they didn’t know having their car burgled, they might
not report it as it doesn’t affect them, if they saw a vagrant sleeping rough or if they see a
drug dealer selling to people who look over the age of. 18, this doesn’t affect them either so
wont report this. 1 in 5 crimes go unreported due to the witness not being affected. This
links to the brief as Mr S’ son has been seen sleeping rough by friends however some may
have not reported this as it doesn’t affect them as it’s a victimless crime

A social and cultural reason that moral crimes go unreported is due to lack of knowledge.
This has a couple of elements inside of it including; witness may not know who to report the
crime to or how to. Sometimes a people don’t know that a certain action is actually a crime,
for example vagrancy is a crime which some people don’t know. Like in the brief Mr S’ son
has been seen as a vagrant but this may have not been reported because witness don’t
know how to report the police too. 29% of crimes go unreported due to the fact the witness
thinks it’s not with it. Crimes lie vagrancy people feel sorry for the homeless and want to
help them instead of reporting them. The last reason is the lack of current public concern. If
a crime isn’t affecting the public, it won’t be reported for example the publics views on
cannabis is always changing and now swinging more to wanting to legalise the use of
cannabis as its seen as harmless. As a result of this people seeing people smoke cannabis
are more unlikely to report it and there is a low public concern and other things that are
more important. 36% of low-level crimes linking to cannabis selling and consuming go
unreported. A social and cultural reason that white collar crimes go unreported is due to
lack of knowledge. This has a couple of elements inside of it including; witness may not
know who to report the crime to or how to. Sometimes people don’t know that a certain
action is actually a crime. This links to white collar crime as it lacks knowledge of what
actually goes on. This is especially common inside of offices and cooperate businesses. But
