- etniciteit: behoren tot een bepaald volk
- separatisme: de wens van een volk om zich van een staat af te scheiden
- autonome regio: zelfbeschikking/soevereiniteit (binnen een staat)
- gewapende conflicten: een aanhoudende waarbij in een jaar in totaal
minstens 25 doden vallen
- staat: gebied met eromheen een internationaal erkende grens. Wetten en
regels gelden hier.
- volk: groep mensen die zich bij elkaar voelen horen door taal, geloof of
doordat ze een gemeenschappelijke geschiedenis hebben.
- regionalisme: een volk houdt, binnen een staat, sterk vast aan de eigen
geschiedenis en cultuur.
- nationalisme: een volk streeft naar onafhankelijkheid en het stichten van een
eigen staat.
