De gewrichten kunnen we onderscheiden op 4 niveaus:
1. Voorarm- carpus
2. Carpus-metacarpus en de basis metacarpus (onderling)
3. Metacarpus-phalangen
4. Phalangen onderling
NIVEAU 1: tussen de voorarm en de carpus: articulationes manus proximalis
In de handwortel onderscheiden we 2 gewrichten
1a. articulatio radiocarpea
1b. articulatio intercarpea
(articulatio ossis pisiformis is een bijkomend gewrichtje)
1a. articulatio radiocarpea
De facies articulares vormen een eigewricht met de grote as laterolateraal
gericht.
De pan wordt gevormd door de facies articularis carpea van de radius, de
discus articularis en een deel van het ligamentum collaterale ulnare.
De kop wordt gevormd door de ossa scaphoideum, lunatum en triquetrum.
(de kop en de pan zijn zoor ligamenta interossea aaneengesloten.)
De capsula articularis hecht in op de rand van het kraakbeen en de discus.
Een verbinding met de articulatio ossis pisiformis komt voor in 1/3 e van de
gevallen.
1b. de articulatio intercarpea
De facies articulares worden beide gevormd
door meerdere beentjes.
Proximaal zijn het de ossa scaphoideum,
lunatum en triquetrum.
Distaal wordt het gewrichtsvlak gevormd
door de 4 distale botjes.
Beide rijen zijn door stevige ligamenta
interossea met elkaar verbonden en worden
overdekt met een bijna doorlopende
kraakbeenlaag.
