How would Maslow's hierarchy of needs affect a person's readiness to learn? Include an
example from your selected area of education (academic, staff, or patient). Support
your response with literature.
Maslow’s hierchary of needs is “a person’s most fundamental needs for air, food,
clothing and shelter…Higher needs on Maslow’s pyramid include safety and security,
love and belonging, and self-esteem and self-actualization, in that order” (Freitas &
Leonard, 2011, p. 9). In order for a student to be successful in school they need to have
their fundamental needs met such as air, food, and shelter. Without these things, the
student wouldn’t be worried about learning.
