, Preface
A quantitative determination is used to define the extent to which the terminal capacity has been reached.
This provision takes into account the number of passengers that are present in a certain part of the
terminal. Guidelines have been drawn up that can be used to allocate spaces to an optimal situation for
both travelers and the airport.
It is critical that these guidelines are closely followed in order to maintain an adequate living space
for the passengers while at the same time no money is wasted on excessive space. This is achieved by,
among other things, measuring the number of passengers per square meter in different sections of the
building. The results of this measurement can be used to calculate the level of service at an airport.
In this study, the terminal capacity of Paris Orly Airport was looked intro. The following question is
answered: Is the current terminal capacity sufficient for the next decade and if not, how should it be
expanded? This is done on the basis of a quantitative study that subsequently assesses the quality of the
living spaces in various locations within the terminal.
We knew we did not have to talk about the corona crisis, but what's the point of making a forecast if you
are 100% sure it's wrong. That is why we have chosen to investigate the consequences of this virus in detail
and include this in our forecast.
The structure of this report is as follows. Chapter 1 explains the terminal's capacity as it is today. Chapter 2
describes the level of service during peak hours at the airport. In chapter 3, a prediction is made about the
expected number of passengers in the future and whether the terminal will need to be expanded. Chapter
4 contains the conclusion and an expansion proposal. The appendices contain the calculations and a
number of tables.
