As we progress through the research process this week, we will be discussing
the significance of the findings/results. Review one of the two articles for the
RRL assignment and discuss whether the findings are statistically significant?
Which of the findings are clinically significant?
Professor and Class,
With clinical significance, the researcher can identify if a difference is important from an
intervention, whereas statistical significance tells a researcher if the results are real by comparing
the differences to standard error. Clinical significance and statistical significance are both needed
in order to make sure that a change is made in practice based on the results of a study or studies
(Houser, 2015).
After reading the articles last week and thinking about the reading and lesson for this week, the
study about the rural elderly diabetics has some clinical significance to practice. While I
personally felt that the study was biased based on the population, the study still indicated that we
need to take our patients worldview and life experiences into consideration when forming a care
plan for them. This was a qualitative study, our text teaches us that “qualitative studies do not
lend themselves to statistical testing because they do not involve analysis of numbers” (Houser,
2015, p. 360).
