You work for a Dutch airport, of which you have a traffic profile
report gets. This allows you to form a picture of the type of traffic that this
airport serves. Airport management wants its business operations
tests based on the performance of a comparable airport
(benchmarking)
In chapter 1, a comparison is made between the available and required runway length of the
aircraft on the traffic report. Furthermore, the runway lengths of 16 airports were searched on the
internet and these were used in the comparison with the runway lengths from the graphs of the
Airport Planning Document. In the second chapter the four best airports were selected based on
the Airside analysis, those airports are Ibiza Airport (LEIB), Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen International
Airport (LTFJ), Riga International Airport (EVRA), and Tenerife South Airport (GCTS). In this chapter,
we also looked at and then made a comparison between the PCN of the runway and the ACN of
the aircraft at the four airports, but also the taxiways and obstacles. In chapter 3 an analysis of the
catchment areas was made for the four remaining airports with catchment area images of 60
minutes to the airport. The DESTEP of the four remaining airports is elaborated in chapter 4. Per
letter of the DESTEP (Demographics, Economy, Sociocultural, Technology, Ecology, and Political) is
described what is relevant for each of the airports.
In chapter 5 the landside and terminal facilities have been processed for the four aforementioned
airports with the corresponding modalities. Finally, Ibiza airport was selected based on all
surveyed criteria and there was a conclusion given about why the Ibiza airport was finally chosen.
Chapter 6 first describes what Iata LOS is, thereafter the maximum number of passengers for the
functional areas on the 3 levels, overdesign, optimum, and sub-optimum, was determined on the
basis of the surfaces at Ibiza airport. It was necessary here to calculate the number of passengers
using the following formula: ''Terminal area ÷ Area per passenger”. The seventh chapter explains
what the peak moment is and it determines what the peak moment of the total terminal is in
numbers of passengers and for how long. But also the determination of the busiest moment per
function area, and what the actual determination is of the level of service (LOS) per functional
area, using in-and-output tables in Excel. Chapter 8 mainly looked at which functional areas are
growing the fastest, which functional areas are due for expansion, and when this should start. But
also what costs are involved. In addition, we looked at, for example, the influence of technology in
the future. In the last chapter of this report, a conclusion and a proposal are given on the basis of
the detailed and calculated data in the previous chapters.

,Preface
In this report, it was important to select a suitable airport for the traffic profile. The aviation
industry is growing and so are the passenger numbers at an airport. So it is all about expanding the
terminal facilities. In addition, there will be investigated which components a terminal consists of
and what requirements are imposed on them. A forecast will also be made of the future number
of passengers and an expansion proposal will be based on this.

, 1. Airside analysis
- The required path length of the Airbus A321 must be 2560 meters.
LEBL: Barcelona-El Prat Airport
Runway Dimensions
07L/25R 10997 x 197 feet / 3352 x 60 meters
Runway Dimensions
07R/25L 8727 x 197 feet / 2660 x 60 meters
Runway Dimensions
02/20 8294 x 148 feet / 2528 x 45 meters
Runway 02/20 falls below the required runway length of a departing A321. Virtually making the
runway useless and rendering the operations of the airport uneconomical.
LICC: Catania-Fontanarossa Airport

Runway is not long enough to accommodate an A321 at MTOW.
