, Introduction
This PowerPoint presentation is designed to help the understanding of the rules and regulations of football
practical ways to apply these rules. I will also describe the roles and responsibilities of match officials with
football.
Football is the biggest sport in the world, from the World Cup to kids having a knock about in the street. It
estimated that the World Cup final is watched by an estimated 600 million people. Therefore, football must
rules to ensure games are fair, enjoyable, have respect for and are safe for those that take part .
The first football ‘Laws’ were in 1863. In 1886 The International Football Association Board (IFAB) was foun
and given the responsibility for developing football rules which are called the ‘Laws of the Game’. In 1913 F
joined The IFAB to ensure that the Laws of the Game are the same for all football throughout the world.
The Laws of the Game are constantly under review by the IFAB and will change to incorporate situations tha
of benefit to the game. Every new law or laws that are updated must be based on fairness, integrity,
respect, safety, thinking about the enjoyment of the people and how technology can benefit the game…. Alth
incorporation of VAR is still controversial!

winner, extra time and/or a penalty shootout may take place. Football is played within a set of rules known as the
the Game’ (LOTG) so that it is fair to all players. There are 17 laws, each containing rules, regulations, stipulations
