Transporte activo primarioLa bomba sodio-potasio (Na+-K+) transporta iones sodio hacia el
exterior de las células e iones potasio hacia el interior. La bomba
sodio-potasio (Na+-K+), que se encuentra en todas las células
corporales, es la responsable de mantener las diferencias de
concentración de sodio y potasio a través de la membrana celular, así
como de establecer un potencial eléctrico negativo dentro de las
células. Esta bomba funciona del siguiente modo: se unen tres iones
sodio a una proteína transportadora en el interior de la célula y se
unen dos iones potasio a la proteína transportadora en el exterior de la
célula. La proteína transportadora tiene actividad adenosina
trifosfatasa (ATPasa), y la unión simultánea de iones sodio y potasio
provoca la activación de la función ATPasa de la proteína. La función
de la ATPasa escinde una molécula de ATP, dividiéndola en una
molécula de difosfato de adenosina y liberando un enlace de energía
de fosfato de alta energía. Se piensa que esta energía liberada
produce un cambio químico t y estructural en la molécula
transportadora proteica, transportando los tres iones sodio hacia el
exterior y los dos iones potasio hacia el interior. ·s La bomba Na+-K+
controla el volumen celular. La bomba Na+-K+ transporta tres
moléculas de sodio hacia el exterior de la célula por cada dos
