In this essay, I will present two experiences and discuss them based on psychological concepts and
definitions. Urban and rural lifestyles are different aspects of human life. Both have their
attractiveness and uniqueness, which differentiates them from each other. It is noticeable that both
styles have their advantages and disadvantages. The possibilities that we do not find in the rural
way of life we find in the city way of life. They are two different outlooks on life and involve
certain aspects of life with different nuances. There are many details of these two life profiles that
have marked life (Stevens, 2015, p.327).
The first experience I am going to talk about happened to me a few years ago, I moved from Spain
to the UK to find a job and I also did so with the hope of being able to teach Spanish to English
people. During the first year of my stay in this country, I decided to enjoy the British nature as
much as possible during my time off; On one occasion I rented a car and went to spend a few days
in the Snowdonia Park in Wales. One of the most beautiful activities you can do in this park is to
climb to the top of Snowdon, this is the highest peak in England and Wales, you can go up on the
famous Snowdon Mountain Railway, from this train you can see incredible views of this area and
beautiful landscapes. I also had the chance to visit Llyn Tegid Lake which is the largest lake in
Wales and where you can do various sports such as sailing and fishing. During my stay, I enjoyed
wandering around the park and listening to the sounds of birds and observing nature. Arriving at the
top of Snowdon I had the opportunity to spend some time in silence and think about my aspirations
and goals during my stay in England, at that time I did not know how long I was going to stay there,
maybe a few years, maybe a lifetime. This time spent there was long and I took advantage of
observing the landscapes and meditating, this was a very spiritual experience for me that allowed
me to focus much more on my senses and feelings about the environment I was in.
The second experience I would like to talk about is my visit to Conwy, this is one of the most
important and probably one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Wales, King Edward I's
fortresses at Harlech and Caefarnon are of inexplicable beauty and a recommended visit for any
tourist who has the opportunity to do so. Walking around Conwy the tourists were moving around
the town in a frenzy and this, after spending a few days in the quiet of the countryside, made me a
bit overwhelmed so I decided to get away from the streets and visit the pubs in a more relaxed way.
I have decided to spend more time enjoying nature. I now work part-time during the week in the
hotel industry, as well as continuing to teach Spanish, which has helped me to be less nervous and
has increased my well-being and satisfaction.
Now thinking back because this essay is on these two experiences that I am going to base my
explanation on the psychological theories or concepts related to them.
I noticed that there was a disparity in behaviour between rural and urban areas. In the mountains,
people produced their food and were thus partially self-sufficient, unlike in urban areas; in the
cities, technological progress has distanced us from nature to the point where we are almost
oblivious to it. I was very conscious of this distancing when I was on the top of the mountain
absorbed in my thoughts and with hardly any noise pollution to interrupt me beyond the sounds of
nature itself. I could notice that this time in the nature park was very good for my general and
