Service Plan Brief for Home Based Care
Introduction
My idea of a service plan is home-based care services. The home-based care service is
defined as any professional health care service offered to a client in the comfort of his or her
residence. Professional health care may be informal or formal. The World Health Organization
(WHO) describes this home-based care as any health provision that is administered to a patient at
home. (Fathollahi-Fard et al., 2020). WHO further suggests that home-based care is often
administered at a critical stage of one’s life. That is in most cases home-based care is the final
option to patients and families whose lives would have been incapacitated by moving into a
healthcare facility; Furthermore, it reduces the burden and the infringement to one’s privacy and
most certainly provides a pathway towards a dignified death.
Home-based care intends to offer holistic care to patients that would involve friends and
family, as well as supervision from a professional caregiver. The purpose is to give
comprehensive care to patients who would be burdened by traveling and hospital cost
(Fathollahi-Fard et al., 2020). Secondly, the service is meant to decongest hospitals and
healthcare facilities especially in light of the Covid 19 pandemic which has overwhelmed
healthcare facilities resulting in a major reduction of the available resources and manpower
needed to deal with other health problems (Mills et al., 2020). Home-based care ensures
unrestricted access to the patient which is necessary for the physical and psychologic wellbeing
of the patient as compared to facilities like the hospital. Importantly, home base care is still very
affordable and accessible even though the professionals are the ones responsible to make it to the
patient’s home.

Importance
The service will serve the disabled, elderly, the chronically, the critically, the terminal ill, as well
as some Covid 19 patients. This service will be important to this group of people because it is
more affordable by restricting unnecessary movements which expose patients to further health
dilemmas. Services would be rendered in the comfort of their homes. They will also be treated
around their family and friends. Hospitals and healthcare facilities considering Covid 19
regulations have become too restrictive and are not offering the necessary comfort the patient
needs (Mills et al., 2020) When ill, the patient needs social support which is often absent in
healthcare facilities because of Covid 19 restrictions in hospitals. Again, another important factor
is the need for privacy in critical moments especially for the elderly which is often the case with
public healthcare institutions and residential healthcare facilities (Schuchman et al., 2018). It also
affords the nurse the capacity to serve the community away from the healthcare facility.
Market Analysis
The 2020 market projections show that investing in home-based care services is ideal.
According to the analysis, the global home healthcare market size is valued at 281.8 billion USD
with an expected growth of 7.9 percent over the next 7 years based on current medical practice
trends ((Schuchman et al., 2018). These projections are for the period of 2020 to 2027. These
projections covered people over the age of 65.
This significant growth is anticipated in the light of an aging population that values a
more relaxed healthcare setting. It is estimated that in 2050 the number of elderly people will
double from 703 million up to 1.5 billion for people over 65 years of age. This data can be
interpolated into our targeted area which is Camden and Salem County, NJ.
