3. Differentiate between the following based on presentation (identify skin conditions or
appearance of skin)
BASAL CELL CARCINOMA: Typically on the head and neck but can occur anywhere. Flesh-
colored, pearly domed nodule with overlaying telangiectatic vessels, pinkish patch of skin. Later
stage will be a central ulcer and crusting.
PLAQUE PSORIASIS: Scale-like lesions that appear as red, raised patches with a whitish
buildup of dead skin cells. Can appear anywhere but typically on elbows, knees, lower back,
scalp. Plaques often hurt or itch.
URTICARIA: Also known as hives. An outbreak of swollen, pale red bumps or wheals that
appear suddenly- typically a result of a reaction to an allergen. Usually cause itching and may
burn or sting.
