WEEK 2: DELINEATION OF CLINICAL PRIVILEGES How does a hospital medical staff determine that a physician applicant is qualified and competent to perform all procedures requested on his or her delineation of clinical privileges? By way of process, what happens next once the medical staff has completed this assessment process? Why is regular reappointment to the medical staff important for patient safety? Simply being licensed does not automatically give a physician hospital privileges. Delineation of privilege is an action of an organization to assure all physicians are competent in skills and procedures by documented clinical training and demonstrating the ability to perform to ensure the safety of patients and promoting positive outcomes and quality care enhancing patient satisfaction (Position Statement, 2018). Without this process, the physician is not considered privileged. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, hold hospitals responsible to appropriately and accurately, to privilege physicians before an individual can practice. Obtaining privileges can be detailed and tedious but is necessary for patients to get the best possible care (Obert, 2006). Reference
