Carolyn Surtees, an account executive, and Don Gregory, a movie and theater director,
raised David Michael Gregory, born on 24th August 1970, in Los Angeles, California. Having
grown up in an inter-religious household with his mother as an Irish catholic, David Gregory,
Gregory was married to attorney Beth Wilkinson, who did not convert but promised to help him
raise their children as Jews. Being a devout Christian who loves the festivals and customs of his
faith, told The Daily Beast in 2011 that they were committed to educating their children as Jews.
Gregory also trained with Erica Brown, a residential scholar at the Jewish Federation of Greater
Washington, that had casual discussions about Jewish tradition. Next, Gregory went to
Birmingham High School in the Los Angeles' Lake Balboa area, a mixed comprehensive high
school. Later, He went to American University in Washington, D.C., where he graduated with a
bachelor's degree in 1992. Gregory worked for ATV - American University Television, the
university's television network, and earned a degree in International Studies from the School of
International Service and was a member of the Dean's Advisory Council and was named alumnus
of the year at the School of International Service in 2005.

Gregory began his career in the media at the age of 18 as a summer reporter for KGUN-TV
in Tucson, Arizona. He later joined NBC News in 1995 and served as a reporter in Los Angeles
and Chicago and their flagship West Coast station KCRA-TV in Sacramento. During George W.
Bush's administration, David was the channel's Chief White House Reporter. He was with
President Bush on 11th September and Mr. Bush's first trip to Ground Zero after the bombings.
In addition, Gregory documented the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan from the White House,
, earning a name as the press corps' hardest interviewer. Gregory has since reported three political
campaigns: 2000, 2004, and 2008.
Highlights of Gregory's career
Gregory reported almost every significant event for the network, including the O.J.
Simpson cases, the conviction of Oklahoma City Terrorist Timothy McVeigh, President
Clinton's impeachment, and Pope John Paul II's demise. Gregory was elected director of NBC
News in December 2008. David landed a series of exclusive appearances on "Meet the Press,"
including one with Vice President Joe Biden, which marked the administration's big turn on gay
marriage. After holding the first interview with General David Petraeus after assuming command
of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Gregory moderated a dialogue between Republican candidates for
a special broadcast during the 2012 campaign. In addition, he held interviews with several
international diplomats. David was a regular on NBC's special reports, co-anchoring Osama bin
Laden's arrest and death headlines and death, and was a central figure in coverage of the four
presidential elections. David wrote his book; How's Your Faith? which examines his own faith
experience and the journeys of others, including former President George W. Bush, who raised
the question that inspired the book's title. Interviews with well-known religious figures,
including Cardinal Tim Dolan and evangelical preacher Joel Osteen, are included in Gregory's
book published by Simon & Schuster in 2015.
David currently serves on Martha's Table, a non-profit organization devoted to delivering
equitable alternatives to deprivation in Washington. In addition, he was an executive of the
Dean's Council for American University's School of International Service. David resided in
Washington, DC, with their three children and his wife, Beth Wilkinson, and is an enthusiastic
