Upon successful completion of my MBA program, I work in the analytics department for

a consulting company. my assignment is to analyze the provided Hospital databases. As a

consultant, I was asked to use the Hospital database and construct a 90% confidence interval to

estimate the average census for hospitals. Next, I will adjust the level of confidence to 99%. And

explain what happened to the interval. The goal of this study, is to discover the average census

for hospitals in the United States, and to determine the various types of hospital ownership,

proportions of general medical and psychiatric hospitals and to determine the number of births

and average number of employed personnel in an average hospital in the United States. Our

objective is to answer the following questions during this study:


 What is the average census for an average hospital in the US?
 What are the main types of hospital ownerships in the US?
 What are the proportions of general medical and psychiatric hospital?
 What is the average number of births in an average hospital in the US?
 What is the average number of personnel employed by an average hospital in the US?


The overall population in the study includes all general medical and psychiatric hospitals

from seven selected areas in the United States. The seven areas are California, South, Southeast,

Northeast, Northwest, Midwest, and Rocky Mountain.


The sample of this hospital study includes of a total of 200 hospitals chosen at random

from the above seven regions/areas.
