Vanuit aortaboog (hartslagader) ontspringt rechts truncus brachiocephalicus → vertrek van 2 takken
richting heresenen:
• A. carotis communis
o A. carotis interna: geen bevloeiing aan hersenen, maar aan ventrale structuren van
hoofd- & halsgebied
o A. carotis externa: buitenkant van schedel bevloeien (hoofdhuid, tong, keel,
schildklier, hersenvliezen)
• A. vertebralis (ontspringt vanuit a. subclavia)

Bloedtoevoer naar Cirkel van Willis/circulus arteriosus cerebri via 2 routes:
• A.a vertebrales (die samenkomen in a. basilaris)
• A. carotis interna
Van daaruit vertrekken 3 bloedvaten die ook deel uitmaken van de Cirkel van Willis (= cerebrale vaten)
• A. cerebri anterior
• A. cerebri media
• A. cerebri posterior
Hersenen zijn gevoelig voor veranderingen van bloedtoevoer
• Bloedtoevoer onderbroken → bewustzijnsverlies (na 4min: beschadigingen aan zenuwstelsel)
• Verstoringen bloedsomloop zijn zeldzaam, want bloed bereikt hersenen via 2 routes
➔ Maakt collaterale circulatie mogelijk (als één van arteriën geblokkeerd raakt)
