Leadership Vignette: Ethical Leadership
What does ethical really mean? It’s when you understand right from wrong and are able
to make decisions based off of these grounds without letting your own personal biases get in the
way. Teachers need to model good ethics since children learn so much by watching behavior of
adults in their lives. My leadership style is based off of open communication, trust, and good
moral ethics. Being trustworthy, kind, and honest with one another is a great example of having
good ethics. Each child and coworker need to be treated kindly, and respectfully. No child or
coworker should every feel left out or feel like they are a favorite. A few other characteristics that
go along with being ethical is having patience and treating each child fair.
Scenario Summary
The scenario I chose to focus on is the teacher who was talking about one child’s specific
weaknesses in a very negative manner. The teacher was discussing this child’s assessment results
in the hall with other teacher, but the teacher was doing so in a degrading way. Later that week,
another teacher mentioned that they heard the teacher talking about the same child after school.
The teacher was discussing the child’s poor behavior in the classroom and the other staff member
was uncomfortable, so they reported it.

Teachers are there to help each child in their care learn and grow in a happy, and safe
