, Abstract: Honour killings is the means to cause death upon anyone who does not abide by
the rules of conduct within a community that heavily challenges women and places such a
great influence on a family’s honour. With a specific significance placed on the focus of the
word honour and what it means to different people, this work demonstrates how honour
can be seen as a stimulant for violence in a family collective. Touching on issues on culture
and its innate patriarchal values, we learn just how dishonourable ‘honour’ killings are and
how much the element of shame impels families into perpetrating in such barbaric activity.
