Within this assignment, I have described the type of business, purpose and ownership of two organisations which are Kellogg's (PLC, for profit) and the NHS (Public Sector, non profit). This Piece of coursework achieved its pass criteria.
Unit 1 – The business Environment P1
P1 – Describe the type of business, purpose and ownership of two contrasting
businesses.
As a reporter I have been asked to produce a document which describes various
aspects of two organisations belonging in different economic sectors. The two
organisations I have chosen are Kellogg’s PLC, belonging in the private sector and
the National Health Service (NHS), belonging in the public sector. I have chosen
these organisations due to their familiarity with the public and the vast amount of
information available on them.
Kellogg’s which was founded in 1906 provided the first ever ready to eat cereal.
The convenient nature of the product meant it was a quick success and now
Kellogg’s have factories throughout the world allowing them to target a worldwide
audience. Today, Kellogg’s has managed to become the second largest snack food
company by frequently innovating and marketing their products. The company’s
corporate responsibility efforts have enabled a strong trust between its
shareholders which has enabled the company to grow each year.
The National Health Service (NHS) was founded in 1948 and was funded through
general taxation and national insurance of the UK. The NHS was developed to
provide a “comprehensive health and rehabilitation service for prevention and
cure of disease”. Today the NHS remains the publicly funded healthcare system of
the United Kingdom and is the oldest single-payer healthcare system in the world.
Organisations can be operated on different scales; local, national, international
and global. Organisations that operate on a local scale are small and have a single
place of business (unless a service) and are often family run or have very few
employees. Local organisations tend to only target residents of their community
as customers. Organisations that operate on a national scale are much larger than
local ones and employ a greater number of people, usually from different regions.
Organisations on an international scale tend to operate between several countries
