Hoofdstuk 1: Inleiding
1.1 Aanleiding
Jonge mantelzorgers (kinderen en jongeren tot 24 jaar) worden
gedefinieerd als kinderen die opgroeien bij een gezinslid met een
(langdurige) ziekte of beperking. Het Departement van Welzijn,
Volksgezondheid en Gezin stelt dat deze doelgroep meer gebruikelijke
taken en verantwoordelijkheden op zich neemt dan
leeftijdsgenoten (Bronselaer et al., 2021). In 2011 werd er gesproken van
ruim 450.000 (12%) kinderen en jongeren in Nederland die te maken
hebben met mantelzorg binnen hun familie (De Jong, 2018). In 2017 was
dit 19% van alle scholieren van 12 tot 16 jaar in Nederland. Zij groeien op
met een naaste die langdurig (drie maanden of langer) ziek is (Van Tienen,
2021). Aan de cijfers is te zien dat er een toename is van jonge
mantelzorgers. Dit komt vanuit zorgen met liefde voor een ander. Vaak
wordt de familie, de partner en de kinderen hierbij betrokken. Ze bieden
zorg aan het familielid om ervoor te zorgen dat diegene zich makkelijker
kan redden in huis, hierdoor thuis kan blijven wonen en daarnaast kan
