Regulatory requirements, reimbursements, and business practices can cause a significant
impact on patient-centered care within any healthcare organization. In today's society, a majority
of the factors are vital for a successful implementation of the Patient-Centered Care Model. The
business practices, policies and, procedures are in place to assist the organization in providing
care for the patients. These practices produce a decrease in several things, like variability,
medical errors and the incident of harm to the patient. They also serve as a resource for the staff
and create standards for care across the healthcare organization to help reduce the chances of
human error. Decreasing the incidents of legal issues and misunderstanding are also processes
included in the business practices.
When caring for the needs of the patient, mental, emotional and physical needs are all vital
points involved in delivering high-quality care to the patient. Moreover, meeting the patient's
needs also plays a significant role in the patient's ratings of their overall experience in the
facility. A patient can experience one negative aspect of care that causes the patient to have a
weak outlook on any other type of care given throughout the remainder of their stay in the
facility. Because of this experience, the patient can give a negative rating about their overall
experience in the facility. The facility may receive less reimbursement for government funding
and insurance companies if they receive too many poor and negative ratings. Studies show that
higher patients’ satisfaction rates were found in hospitals where nurses are continuously

Regulatory Requirements
Regulatory requirements are put in place to provide standards of care and safety guidelines
that healthcare organizations must follow. Federal and State Facility Accreditors, Joint
Commission, Drug Enforcement and other agencies provide these standards and rules with the
patient's safety in mind. Pressure is placed on the organization due to the regulatory requirements
to perform well, receive accreditation and accomplish a good score. Also, those who reimburse
the healthcare costs for the patients has put into place the regulations regarding the care of
patients. An excellent example of this is an admission of a patient to the hospital, what the
patient’s insurance company will pay for is the deciding factor on the admissions status for the
patient. Meaning whether or not the patient can be admitted to the hospital as an inpatient or as
an observational patient. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services hold the responsibility
for providing the rules and regulations and overseeing many aspects of healthcare.

Reimbursement has an impact on patient-centered care within all healthcare, organizations.
Errors and adverse events can hinder the amount of reimbursement received by the facility. the
healthcare organization must deliver a certain baseline of care at all times to ensure
reimbursement . Patient-centered care can be impacted in both negative and positive ways due to
