, Neoliberalism has played a massive role in the society that we
live in today. In this assignment, we will be discussing the
effects of neoliberal policies in post-apartheid in South Africa.
We know that neoliberalism is a concept that was used to
describe the changes that were made in the way that the state
played a role in the economic development as well as the social
development. We will touch on poverty, inequality and
employment since 1994.



The years after 1994, massive changes and transformations of
government were brought into South Africa, seeing that
Apartheid had ended, and we were under new government and
leadership. In 1994, the ANC took over, with all kinds of plans
for the economy and how everyone would have the opportunity
to vote, have equal rights, employment would be offered to
more people of colour. One would think that over twenty years,
massive improvement would have taken place. As we are in
2021 and we look back at what has happened in the past two
decades, it is safe to say that not much has improved as we
have an increase in the unemployment rate, not everyone has
the equal access to proper healthcare, as many cannot afford to
pay medical aid. Life expectancy has declined over the years. As
we can see over the years, the unemployment rate has risen
and with that being said, poverty has risen. Poverty is the state
of being extremely poor and cannot afford to make ends meet.
