In this assignment, I will compare the training needs for staff at different
levels in ABC College.
Training is a key strategy for human resources in order to achieve
organisational objectives. As a result, ABC College is somehow dependent
on the skills of its workforce to remain competitive by providing the best
possible teaching and leadership, of which training is essential. In order to
identify training needs in the college, a successful training needs analysis or
skills audit is required to identify those who need training and determine
what type of training is needed. This is due to the fact that employees
working at different levels in the organization will require specific training in
order to perform effectively, depending on the roles that they are expected
to carry out. This analysis will enable the college to identify skill gaps and
thus focus the next training sessions on these aspects in order to have
efficient programs.
Preferably, ABC College should spend more time and resources in planning
and organising training schemes for its management team in comparison to
other staff as the staff at the top of the hierarchy act as the backbone of the
organisation. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that the training sessions
ensure that managerial staff are confident and effective in their role to
ensure the smooth running of the college.
Moreover, due to the high training requirements of managerial staff, they
might be professionally referred by the college to established training
institutions or events in order to network with others in the domain while also
building up their skills and qualities. On the other hand, employees from
other levels in the organisational structure might simply be informed of
training sessions at college itself as their training requirements could be
addressed by an existing experienced member of staff.
The differences between training needs of new staff and existing ones are
that new employees would have to go through induction processes to be
made familiar about the organization, day-to-day processes, main issues…
Nevertheless, existing members might not necessarily have need in-depth
explanations but simply an overview as they will already be aware of most of
the major aspects due to their experience.
Another major training need that differs from that of the managerial team is
the fact that teachers have to constantly keep updated regarding Edexcel
and other exam boards’ standards and marking scheme in order to inform
students of any changes that can affect their performance in the coming
