In this assignment, I will evaluate the planning, design and delivery of the
training programmes. I will write a report, making judgements about
matching the requirements of individuals to the methods used to deliver the
training.

Although training budgets vary in size between organisations, even the most
successful have to work within budgetary constraints. Therefore, when
planning training programmes, decision makers will need to have a clear
view of the costs of each programme. The college would nevertheless have
to consider the cost effectiveness of its budget plan as training is only
possible within a budget and all training has to be within the college’s
allocated resources. Therefore, we would have to try our ultimate best to
keep costs low; for example, considering special offers such as the cost of
running the course for a group (as opposed to a individuals) or having
members of staff as internal trainers which in turn improves their own CPD
and CVs.

For instance, most of the training programmes, especially that of new staff
can be carried out in the college itself as this would save costs of hiring a
training company to do so; though staff from the managerial team should
ideally be referred for external professional training centres as they require a
more complex set of skills as they act as the backbone for the college and
need to be proficient in their role.

Similarly, hosting inductions are not only a legal requirement but also benefit
both the college and employee as the latter will have a more thorough
background of the organisation and be aware of day-to-day processes,
including vital issues such as health & safety, disciplinary procedures… On
the other hand, this has both advantages and downsides on behalf of the
college. Having an induction will mean avoid any legal consequences due to
compliance, is only carried out once and also ensure that the employees are
well informed about main issues regarding the college and workforce.
However, this would also entail costs as employees would have to be hired
throughout the event for spending their time to explain to new comers and
resources would have to be purchased for this. Thus, it is of utmost
importance that the finance department keeps a close eye on spending and
keep costs are kept at a minimum.

Allocating ‘buddies’ to new employees is also a valuable idea as it will not
only benefit new staff by socialising but also to existing ones as they can
further build up their skills and learn from each other through work
shadowing and add the activity to their CVs and future job applications and
interviews. However, depending on situations, this can also have downsides,
especially if the experienced staff have to leave lessons to assist the new
comers as this will affect lessons and the college might have to find
replacement teachers to fill in so that student do not miss out on their
