In this assignment, I will suggest, with justifications, ways of improving
motivation in an organisational setting.
Initially, there are various ways in which ABC College can improve
motivation of its employees. This process can increase productivity in the
workplace and thus help to achieve goals, aims and objectives and
increase standards.
Financial Rewards:
To begin with, one of the main ways of improving motivation is through
financial rewards such as bonuses or increased salary. In certain cases,
the college can offer a quality related bonus pay, depending on
employees’ standard of tasks, person records, achievements... This will
give the employee concerned the motivation to complete tasks to a high
standard and have the desire to further excels in the future. The
employee will feel rewarded for their hard work and as a result, other
colleagues might follow and emulate their performance to get a bonus pay
as well.
Increasing Responsibilities:
Moreover, another effective way through which ABCcould improve
motivation is by giving staffs more responsibilities. This will make the
employees feel valued and esteemed and therefore they will have the
determination to work better in the college. For instance, on some
occasions, some employees may be asked to perform a task on behalf of a
higher personnel and this will increase their self-esteem and motivation as
they will have the will power to reach to that position sooner or later.
Improving Facilities:
In addition to the above, another efficient way of improving motivation in
the organisation is by creating an environment that meets the needs of
the employees. That is, the college could organise a get-together or a
Gala party occasionally, to get the employees to relax and socialise with
other people working in the college.
In addition to this, the college could provide facilities such as staff rooms,
sports hall, hub, gym as these can make employees feel at ease with each
other and thus increase motivation given that they are comfortable in
their place of work. Creating an appealing atmosphere can help make
working fun and the employees will most probably find it easier to achieve
their goals, which will also benefit the business.
