Licht is een elektromagnetische straling die zich rechtlijnig voortplant in de ruimte. Licht
heeft een duaal karakter:
- licht zijn golven die voortbewegen in de ruimte
- licht bestaat uit fotonen die zicht met een constante snelheid voortbewegen

2.1 Reflectie
Reflectie of weerkaatsing is het terugkaatsen van lichtstralen op een scheidingsopp tussen
twee verschillende middenstoffen
Reflectiegraad = ρ (%)
= De hoeveelheid licht dat gereflecteerd wordt op een grensopp
Reflectie brillenglas: aanbrengen van een ontspiegeling laag of een anti-reflectingcoating
(AR) -> lichtdoorlaatbaarheid neemt toe en reflectie neemt af.

2.2 Absorptie
, Absorptie is het opnemen van licht door een voorwerp -> licht wordt omgezet naar warmte.
Absorptiegraad = α (%)
= Drukt uit hoeveel procent vh licht is opgenomen door het voorwerp

- Hoe donkerder het brillenglas, hoe groter de densiteit (=dichtheid), hoe hoger de
absorptiegraad
- Minimumabsorptiegraad voor UV-bescherming van de ogen = 75%
- CE-Label: norm bescherming UV-licht

0 0 – 20 % (geen bescherming)
1 20 – 57 %
2 57 – 82 %
3 82 – 92 % (bij sterke lichtintensiteit)
4 92 – 97 % (bij uiterst sterke lichtintensiteit)

2.4 Lichtreductiegraad
De lichtreductiegraad is de som van de reflectie- en absorptiegraad.
-> Maat voor het licht dat tegengehouden wordt en het voorwerp niet verlaat.
-> Som van lichtreductiegraad en transmissiegraad = 100%
Hoe hoger de lichtreductiegraad, hoe donkerder het glas, hoe kleiner de transmissiegraad.
