Dangerous driving
Driving classes are more and more populair with the day. There are many
cars on the streets, that results in more accidents. Lately, around 70
procent of the victims are teenagers. The reason is that they are
beginners, and easily distracted. As a result, their parents are
heartbroken, and agreed to the new law. This essay discusses the
negative effects of the new law based on limiting the amount of
passengers in a car who are driven by teenagers.
By limiting the amount of passengers in the car, more than the usual
amount of passengers, it takes away the freedom, which is exactly so
important for teenagers. Especially after the limited freedom in the
multiple lockdowns, due to Covid-19. Driving alone and with friends is seen
as an important trip. Lately this time together is just as important as
watching a movie together, or going out for diner. This is why a law can
not take freedom away from anyone, especially these teenagers.
A fact that you maybe do not see coming, is that teenagers are easier
distracted by their own parents, than their friends. Previous research has
shown that the pressure that parents lay on their children, has a big
influence on their driving skills. The teenagers drive in a riskier way than
usual. So why is there even the rule that an aldult needs to accompany a
teenager when driving? Conclusively, this is to show that there is a higher
risk with a parent in the car, than that their kids are driving alone. Thus,
parents give more pressure on their children which is why accidents are
more likely to happen with parents in the car instead of more passengers.
A next argument is that limiting the passengers just means more rules,
what is often heard as a level of age discrimination, and maybe for some,
more rules to break. Why would we challenge them to respond on a new
limit? Around 80% of the teenagers feel that they are often not heard by
aldults, shown by research at different high schools. This could give an
even bigger reaction on the limit of of the amount of passengers. This is
because the law doesn’t only involve age discrimination through the
difference of age, but also it does not make sense. An beginner of driving
could be 50; new drivers are not only always of the age of 18.
To conclude, the new law should not be taken because of the issue of age
discrimination and taking teenagers freedom away. Accompanying a
teenagers in a car as an aldult, only gives more pressure on the teenagers,
instead of their friends, or that they are driving alone. By all means,
accidents are more likely to happen with the new law instead of none.
Given this information, the law should not apply to any teenagers.
