We all have different goals and desires that we'd want to attain in life. Goals,whether personal or professional, set the trail for where we are and where
we'd want to be in life. Having many goals without an inspiration is putting in
yourself for failure as a goal without a concept is simply a dream. i might
previously find myself with many goals both long-term and short-term, but I
couldn't understand why I couldn’t actualize them even after fitting enough
work to work out them to fruition. After reading Principles Of management, I
noticed i used to be setting myself up for failure as most of the goals in my
life were not “SMART”. The acronym SMART stands for Specific, Measurable,
Aggressive, Realistic & Timely as quoted in Management Principles v.1.1
(Bauer, Carpenter, &Erdogan, 2012, p57). The smart technique encourages
us to define our goals more clearer and helps us to achieve our objectives
with a practical approach. It gives you clarity of where are you heading along
with your goals and what must be done at any level of the plan to actualize
it. Below is an example of 1 of my current goals using the Smart Technique.
Specific:
I attempt to graduate with a BBA degree within the next 4 years.
Where - I’m currently a BBA undergraduate enrolled student at the
University of the People
currently pursuing an foundation year in business administration
which i might prefer to pursue to degree level.
When- I attempt to complete the course within the subsequent four
years. also, make me competitive with employers.
Why - i need to extend my knowledge which can help me in running
my
business and
What - i need to accomplish my business degree in 2026.
Measurable:
I'll ensure I complete my course units successfully and bypassing my
exams with a minimum target of 3.2 GPA in each term.
Aggressive:
I’m progressing to achieve this by creating enough time to check,
which is a minimum of 15 hours week. this may ensure I can complete
my assignments on time, hence ensuring i've got good grades.
